I Dare You!

posted in: ART 101, Mixed Media 6

Have you heard that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master something?

I’ll save you the math… 10,000 hours equates to working 40 hours a day for 5 years!

It has been discovered that the most successful people, in any field or activity, are the ones who practice and persevere through the difficult stages. As a result of consistent practice, they develop a passion for their craft and eventually become experts. The amount of practice a person puts in even, allows the “regular” people to surpass the “gifted” people in their field.

In the class I am taking, Juliette has been talking about working through and pushing ahead even when you aren’t sure what to do next. This is a problem for me. I often get stuck and then become paralyzed, not knowing which direction to head or where to go next. My first response is to walk away and avoid facing the difficulty in front of me. I move on to something easier, like laundry or cleaning the bathroom {ha ha}. I recently realized, this means I am treating my art as a hobby not a career {insert yucky feeling here!}

An art group that I belong to recently started discussing the problems we face when life gets in the way of our art.

How do we put our passion {or business} ahead of all that calls our attention away?

How do we intentionally move from hobby artist {with a small a} to professional Artist {with a capital A}?

Inspired by a TED talk, we decided to challenge ourselves.

To move from complacency to action.

Starting June 1, I will be participating in the ART101 challenge.

I will be making 101 works of art in 101 days.

ART101 announcement

My goals for this challenge are to:

– make art a daily habit
– to develop consistency with my blog posts
– to discover and develop my unique art style

So, is there something you have been putting off?

Do you need to get serious about something and practice more?

Maybe you need to challenge yourself in a certain area?

What is it? I would love to hear.

I want you to join me in becoming an expert.

I dare you!

Hugs and Abundant Blessings,

Lynnette

FYI… If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!

I have had many short lived hobbies and find if I make or create something slightly unusual and feel satisfied with it and others like it and perhaps someone even wants something like it, that I cannot create the same thing again. I rarely make anything the same twice, even in cooking! Does that mean something I should be concerned about?
Right now I’m trying to making myself consider cleaning and packing to move my career! Wish me luck with that one!!

LOL! Peggy, you are too funny! I am the same, I do different things on different days. Variety is the spice of life… right? Just for today, do what you love!
